The Tuesday of MIPIM is always a hive of activity. Delegates arriving for the first time, settling in, frantically making diary appointments and catching up with colleagues, contacts and friends. As part of our attendance at this year’s event, we’re producing a daily report on the need to know stories, events and announcements, affecting our Leeds and East clients and the wider North.

On the eve of MIPIM, City of Bradford MDC have released a detailed strategy, setting out the case for Northern Powerhouse Rail. The NPR Growth Strategy focuses on skills, education and unlocking growth for the City. The plans, which set out six key social and economic factors, are backed by businesses and the Leeds City Region.

West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street, has set out a £10bn investment portfolio at MIPIM. The West Midlands Investment Prospectus, which will be detailed at the region’s stand today, sets out a series of projects including housing, transport, infrastructure and commercial, in a showcase to potential investors.

The Sheffield City Region has announced plans for a Global Innovation Corridor. The plans build on Sheffield and the surrounding area’s advancements in manufacturing and technology in recent years, including the AMRC.

Sir Richard Leese has welcomed the 245 strong Manchester delegation to this year’s event. He set out hopes and expectations over the coming days and praised the City’s resilience and ‘strength and depth in partnership working’. The Manchester flight was one of several diverted to Genoa, due to tricky landing conditions at Nice.

Events: Early doors, we’ll be keeping our eye on the UK government stand, with the ‘Driving the North’s Ambition’ event, first on the programme. Hosted by the Northern Powerhouse Partnership and Addleshaw Goddard, discussions will promote the need for Northern Powerhouse Rail.

The Leeds City Region also has a packed programme of events today, with our Chairman and Chamber president chairing a debate on Intelligent transport at 11am (10am UK time) and the focus will shift to the City of Leeds, who will host an event ‘Realising our ambitions’ at 13:45.

Happening Bradford this afternoon will celebrate the private sector’s role in Bradford, and discuss development opportunities across the district. It’s been great to work with PwC, Arup and Yeme Architects to help deliver this important event.
